so this is something i’ve been keeping quiet about for a while (and will probably not post elsewhere just yet) but i wanted to share on tumblr first because…… on a technicality i owe so much to this website.
a lot of you shared Qahera, my first comic, in 2013 and a lot of you are following me because of that. since then, i’ve been working on a graphic novel trilogy that’s being published here in egypt. but i’m really really excited to announce that this year the English translation of my graphic novel got acquired by Pantheon - the publishing house behind graphic novels like Maus and Persepolis(!!!) - which is a division of penguinrandomhouse, and Granta in the UK.
my graphic novel is a trilogy but the english translation will publish all three parts as one volume, which is why it’s slated for 2021.
anyway obviously this is something that would have been inconceivable to me years ago, and it also means for the next two years i’m actually going to be a full-time comics artist, which is something that would have been impossible for me in egypt with our local comics scene being what it is.
i recently found this interview i posted the screenshot of in 2014 talking about how i would have liked to be a full-time comics artist, and it only just registered that this is really happening. so yeah!! thats the big news. thanks for being part of the journey so far!!!!
